Featured Song: Awake My Soul (w/ Spoken Word)

Screen Shot 2014-08-13 at 8.50.38 AMDuring “Truth is Stranger Than Fiction” we spent a week on the Valley of the Dry Bones in Ezekiel 37. We decided to do rendition of “Awake My Soul” by Chris Tomlin and Lecrae with the spoken word and it turned out great! We were able to do this song pretty much as it was done on the recording and it was a very cool element.

We had several conversations about the placement of this song in the service, whether pre-message or post. With the direction that the message it fit really well content wise to go post message, so that it what we did. However, it did not have the feel that we wanted it to have at the end of the message and in hindsight we would have placed the song pre message.

Featured Song: The Words I Would Say

As apart of our Man Up series we did the song, “The Words I Would Say” by Sidewalk Prophets. We felt like the song was the same throughout the entire time, so we scaled it back for a more acoustic sound at the beginning and then built it into full band.

To make the staging feel different we put our everyone but the Keyboardist on stools and had all of our guitarist come to the front line and put the vocalists in the back. It was a nice way to mix things up.

Series: Truth is Stranger Than Fiction

The Crossing TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION (16x9 main) 14

Truth is Stranger Than Fiction is a series we did focusing on some of the crazy stories of the Bible. The original idea was taken from a book called “Crazy Stories, Sane God” by John Alan Turner (Amazon Link). We did this series through the summer and it worked well because the weeks did not build off of each other.

Blurb:

In today’s society, we gravitate toward crazy fictional stories. We spend lots of money to watch them and give the writers awards for the best one! However, in the Bible we find several true stories that can top even what the best Hollywood writers can dream up. Join us for a seven week series as we go through these stories in the Bible that show that truth really is stranger than fiction.

Weekend Rundown: Be Bold (Man Up – Wk 1)

For the first week of our Man Up series we took on the topic of being bold. With the text being focused in 2 Timothy 1:1-7

A great element that we really liked was integrating the Manly Meme idea that uses the same picture that we are using in our graphic (we are actually borrowing this graphic and bumper from Christ’s Church of the Valley in the Phoenix area). Lee actually used a few of these in his message (Message Link below).

Weekend Rundown: Strange Dinner Guest (Truth is Stranger Than Fiction Wk: 7)

“Strange Dinner Guest” was the last week in our Truth is Stranger than Fiction Series. This was an overall solid service from the worship through the message. The text was the story of David and Mephibosheth found in 2 Samuel 9.

We really loved the bumper for “Strange Dinner Guest.” It is the last of four comedic bumpers that we filmed that featured an awkward small group situation. In each of these videos we gave a preview to the passage for the day because many of the texts are not preached as often as others. This helped to give people an idea of what we were talking about before the speaker began.

“Christ is Enough” by Hillsong Live is a song we are currently doing a lot. This song has really resonated with our congregation. The bridge is especially impactful by integrating parts of “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” in a new way.
